Light: Panicle hydrangeas like Tiny Quick Fire are the most sun tolerant of all hydrangeas and thrive in full sun in cooler climates (USDA zones 3-6/7) or part sun in warmer areas (USDA zones 7-9). In warmer areas, shade during the hottest part of the day is crucial for the best and longest-lasting floral display.Soil: Moist, well-drained soil is imperative. Any period of extended sogginess will not be tolerated. Soil pH does not affect flower color, it matures to deep pink in the fall. If the flowers brown instead of aging to pink, it’s typically due to water stress during the blooming period or high night time temperatures.Water: Average water needs. Panicle hydrangeas are somewhat drought tolerant once established, however, water stress can interfere with the quality and longevity of the floral display.Fertilizing: Nothing special required. If desired, you may apply a granular fertilizer formulated for woody plants in late winter/early spring when the soil is workable.Pruning: Pruning is recommended in early spring. Remove any thin, spindly side branches off the main stems, then reduce the main stems by about 1/3 of their height and width. Make cuts just above a bud. Dead or damaged wood can be removed at any time.Other: Makes a nice cut flower. For its longest vase life, help it absorb more water by cutting vertically up the stem about 2″.
