Light: At least six hours of bright sun each day ensures best flowering, healthy foliage, and vigorous growth.Soil: Well-drained soil is imperative – lilacs cannot tolerate wet or soggy soils, even for short periods. They prefer a neutral to slightly alkaline pH but are fairly adaptable.Water: Average water needs. Lilacs show good drought tolerance once they are established but severe, prolonged drought may negatively impact flowering.Fertilizing: One application of a granular fertilizer formulated for shrubs, like a rose fertilizer, in early spring is sufficient. For best rebloom, however, you may wish to continue to fertilize monthly through late July.Pruning: Pruning is not required, but if you wish to prune, do so after the spring bloom. A light trim after blooming can encourage more new growth for a better rebloom, and you may prefer the neater appearance of a light trim after the spring bloom. Try trimming your reblooming lilac one year and not trimming it the following year to see what you prefer.Other: Bloomerang lilacs make excellent cut flowers.
